Changing Tyres and doing the 4k maintenance.

What I have done to my SV1Ks ***Updated 5/6/06**

I'll try to keep all informed on what I do to my SV1Ks and will probaly be not a whole lot everything has been done ....well almost. Lets say all the big money items were already on it when I bought it.(Thanks for the deal Randy).

The list of mods done as of 1/29/06 Tank spacers and snorklectomy.

M4 TI 3/4 system..... oh that lovely sound

Galfer Wave rotors and SS Lines. Yes they work a lot better than stock.

New DID gold gwxring chain and 42t rear... The right gearing to pull redline in top gear.

Rear fender elimnator and rear LED blinkers

BMC Street Filter

TEKA SFI Tune...... Still working on it. So far With all the mods it still needed to be leaned out so started with overall 10% leaner thru out the range on the advice of a friend who was told by and  sponsered by Factory Pro. (Cory West #13 AMA SuperBike GSXR1000K5).

** So far I like the setting I'm running.

I think I'd like to maybe richin it up off Idle to bout 4000rpm just a few percent.

Check TPS sensor .......was where it should be..

New accessory Suzuki Gel seat a 109.00 money very well spent!

Suspension Settings I started with. From

http://www.sv1000.zyns.com/ Perfomance Bike mag post

Front Fork

Preload : 4 lines showing (standard 6 lines)... I'm at 3
Rebound: 1/2 turn out from full in (standard 1 1/2 turns from full in) I'm at 3/4-changed to 1/2
Compression: 1/2 turn out from full in (standard 1 turn out from full in) I'm at 3/4- changed to 1/2
**Fork position:8mm (measured from the yolk to the top of the fork, excluding fork cap) (standard was stated as 6mm) Humm Well mine are at 5mm...... I'm planning to move them up to 8mm*** Now at 12mm***I'm gonna go with 5wt fork oil first.

Rear Shock
Preload: 14mm above top ring (standard 7mm) 12mm and my sag is set
Rebound: 1/2 turn out from full in (standard 1 1/2 turns out from full in)same
Compression: 2 turns out from full in (standard 2 1/2 turns out from full in) I'm at 2 1/4 turns out.

So far these setting seem to work well.

Pilot Powers are on and WHAT A DIFFERANCE!!!

Before you do anything put some good tyres on first!!.

Change steering damper to a Scotts...Why because I have one already and they really work great.

***1/29/06***

Started 4k service 3824 on clock.

Now has 4,789 Things that have to be done or looked at close.

Oil change and filter. Done... changed with 1qt of syntech and 2 qts of Actevo Castrol 4t 10-40wt

Look at airbox and filter (Look)

Clean Chain.........wiped chain off with deisel and lubed
Lube whatever I can get to. done

Change out nasty Clutch fluid. Done and works better.

Change Fork oil ....Thinkin 5 wt. SV site sez anything heavier that 5wt will cause hydro lock....hummm

I changed tyres and now have about 700+  miles on them.

Did I  say I HAVE A NEW BIKE....

Holy shit if I knew those tyres in themselves made that much differance I woild have thrown them on months ago.

The Bike is now under revaluation for ride and height ajustment.  As of now hell it feels so good I don't know what to do next......The evaluation.

I now just about 2k on the powers and they seem to be holding up great. I put the tubes at 12mm cranked preload 2 turns in gave it about a 1/4 on rebound and 1/2 turn comp. Still stock fork oil (I know I just rather ride when I have the time). Rear 2 turns down on spring 1/4 stiffer on rebound only. Now it feels like my Sv 650 carving lines around a turn and feeling so light.

I just got my 2k mile 03 GSXR1000 rear shock upgrade soon to be installed. I'm wondering on springrate for the front probaly go with straight wound .9 .95 with 7wt or 7 1/2 oil.

6431 on the clock now.

Make mount and mount scotts steerring dampner (maybe)

The big SV fits me so much better and has just the right kind of power and torque that keeps an old MXer like me happy.  My first Arkansas trip was a getting the feel of it.

At that time I hadn't done anything to it, around here with mostly flat roads it felt great. It was another story in the switchbacks and tight hairpin turns. It felt real slow *****steering and seem to take a lot of effort to make it turn.***** Tyres completey cured this problem****

The last trip I went on with those suspension settings above it was a lot better in the turns. I'm still on stock tyres gotta wear them out first. Then I something caught my eye.... damn tank spacers are awful tall.... so I measured them hell they were 18mm hummm  I just happen to have a set of spacers made of delrun at 8mm

With that change of spacers the new gel seat... it feels pretty good now.

With these powers mounted up the bike feels and act like a totaly different bike......Ahhhhhh so nimble... wantsl to carve and change lines in a turn with ease

Will wait for a bit before I do anything. I got get a feel for these new tyres ....hell the bike now seems just like my 650 just a bit more stable.

I put a BMC street filter on and it does have a noticable crispness added......On the SV site a member I think Spazonatwin had cut the whole insidev parameter of the lid.

I bet that has to do somthing to add a little HP. So I'm thinkin about buyin a lid box whatever off of ebay and maching it like he did. I think its worth a go !
